Franche-Comté Cooler
by Josey Packard of Drink, Boston, MA
1 oz. Bols Genever
.5 oz. St-Germain
.5 oz. fresh lemon
.25 oz. simple syrup
Build over ice in a highball glass. Top with soda water.
Kopstootje
Fill an original tulip glass so full with Bols you couldn’t pick it up without spilling. Clasp hands behind your back and lean forward to sip until the meniscus is gone. Pick up the glass and shoot. Follow with a beer back. And water.
We've also got hangover remedies to tame the beast if it does catch up with you the next morning:
Darren Crawford of Bourbon & Branch takes amino-acid supplements before a night of drinking, then brings himself back to life in the morning with B vitamins and coconut water (high in potassium to regulate your fluids) or bananas: “Then start drinking again cause you feel good and like the abuse.”
Zach Morvant of Tortilla Heights also looks to hot sauce for a cure, showering his scrambled eggs and fried potatoes in Sriracha, and washing it all down with coconut juice and coffee.
Back in the hard-drinking times of the pre-Prohibition days, fizzy drinks were the surest way to say adios to a hangover. For a little hair of the dog, if you must, try one of these recipes:
