Earlier this month, the sole West Coast outpost from Paris-based Lilith relocated from its former location on Berkeley’s Fourth Street to Pacific Heights. We recently caught up with the shop’s longtime manager Sharon Haag to learn more about the new destination for feminine, French fashion and what’s in store for spring.
How would you describe the Lilith aesthetic?
Sophisticated whimsy.
Why should San Francisco women flock to Lilith?
There’s a little bit of whimsy, [the clothes] are artistic, they’re any age. You wear the clothes, they don’t wear you. The clothes do have something unusual: a sweater that you can wear upside down or a tuck in an unusual place. The fabrics are all from France and they’re very tactile. You just don’t look like everybody else, you look like an individual.
What’s new for Lilith this season?
A portion of our spring has arrived, and we anticipate a new shipment in about two weeks. Every season, Litith has a theme. This season it’s Havana in the 50’s. They’re bright colors and beautiful linens and exclusive patterns, fabrics that are exclusive to us…There’s a sundress that’s so adorable and linen pants. They’re all very current to the fashion industry, but there’s an edge to them. They don’t look like anyone else.
What pieces in the store right now are must-haves for spring?
We do a lot of taffeta and tulle. These skirts are equally suited for going out at night as they are with a tee and Converse sneakers during the day. You don’t have to save them for a special occasion. And we have some darling sweaters. They’re all cotton and just really easy to wear.
