For our column Jams We Love, we're turning you onto the songs that keep us going every day.
Keep Control (Don't Loose Your Head)
1. Culture Kids, "Keep Control"
At a benefit for Thrillhouse Records tonight at the Knockout, check this SF punk outfit get unraveled real fast onstage. Knock someone's drink out of their hands, tackle someone who's trying his hardest to act cool. Then just blame it on the music.
2. Royal Baths, "Burned"
Find this sludgy slab of charred, satanic blues on RB's Better Luck Next Life LP, which just dropped today. On this slow burner, the band takes its time building its signature intensity thanks to stretched out, languid riffs, Jeremy Cox's guitar freakouts and singer Jigmae Baer's eerie, off-kilter coos. For the icing on the cake, see them perform this live the next time they're in town. It takes their weirded out sense of paranoia to the next level.
3. oOoOO, "NoWayBack"
Irresistibly sultry and just hazy enough to keep the mystery alive, we can't wait to take in this SF producer's throbbing basslines live at Noise Pop on the 22nd.
Hunx - Always Forever from Hardly Art on Vimeo.
4. Hunx, "Always Forever"
Dialing back his signature nasally croons on this first single from his solo album Hairdresser Blues, Hunx (of Hunx & His Punx, duh) lays down an awesome dose of "get out of my face" garage pop. We can't wait to hear the rest of the LP, which Hunx says he wrote late at night in his bedroom while going through "really dark periods."
