This holiday, John Waters is "putting the philander back into philanthropy." The famous filmmaker, actor, writer, and artist best known for cult classics like Hairspray, Pink Flamingos, and Cecil B. DeMented is bringing his Sleigh Full of Smut to the Roxie this Saturday.
For one night only, John Waters will pull out all the dirty stops for the beloved Roxie's holiday fundraiser and celebration of its 101st anniversary. Waters' critically-acclaimed one-man show (which he hasn't performed since 2006) will no doubt feature his rapid-fire monologues in the form of bawdy yuletide cheer. Leave the children at home, because this show's been said to "put the X back in Xmas." Waters will share his religious fanaticism for Santa Claus, his compulsive desire to give and receive perverted gifts, and his unhealthy urge to remake all his own films into seasonal children's classics. There will also be a pre-show video mashup featuring horn-ball St. Nicks, bloodthirsty elves, talking Menorahs, and candy-cane delirium.
Your ticket doesn't come cheap, but it gets you free-flowing Hendricks Gin martinis, free bites from the Monk's Kettle, Luna Park, Bar Bambino, and Andalu, a post-show meet and greet with the witty Waters, entry into a raffle for a weeklong Hawaii vacation, free valet parking, and more. All things considered, it's quite a steal.
$250; Saturday, 12/11; The Roxie, 3117 16th St., 415-863-1087, roxie.com
