A series of small-scale plein air paintings, depicting San Francisco's Mission District, by Anthony Holdsworth will be on display in this solo show. An image of the vacant lot at the corner of 22nd and Mission Streets sets the tone of the exhibit; it was there that, until last year, a massive mixed-use building housed 62 long-term tenants and nearly a dozen small local retail businesses. What: Shantell Martin's Charge Your Self

Why: This is the first solo show in San Francisco for New York–based artist Shantell Martin, who is known for her black and white, site-specific installations. What: Allison Leigh Holt's The Beginning Was The End

What: The Making of a Great Moment

This play by Peter Sinn Nachtrieb and directed by Sean Daniels examines how much we are willing to pursue our passions, even if if means making sacrifices. The story follows Terry Dean and Mona Barnes, two Canadian actors who tour across the United States by bicycle to show their play, Great Moments in Human Achievement. The annual event returns to the San Francisco Botanical Garden. What: Sophie Calle's Missing

This is the first time in the United States that renowned Parisian artist Sophie Calle is showing a retrospective of her most significant art projects created in her 40-year career.
