Happy New Year, y'all!
We can't think of a better way to start the new year than by streamlining the mishmash of moisturizers, serums, and makeup taking up space in the bathroom. Figuring out what products work, what should be trashed and what we need, however, is no easy task. That's where the recently launched Lockdown Beauty, a virtual beauty concierge, comes in. In a nutshell, the service includes a thorough intake (via FaceTime or Zoom) of your beauty cabinet and/or makeup bag by a certified makeup artist and skincare specialist. She'll edit what you have and suggest products based on your particular skincare needs and makeup desires. Brands include the likes of Cocokind, Glowbiotics, Mad Hippie, Gressa, RMS, Jones Road and Ilia, among others. (All recos are free of synthetics and sulfates.)
What we're most excited about? Said professional is our old friend Kelly Crispen, founder of Elizabeth Street Cosmetics, a lippie brand with products named for San Francisco streets. (The Street Crayon in Balboa is one of our all-time favorites). Sadly, Crispen quietly shuttered her company a year ago but, this past fall, after pivoting out of a dark Covid-induced headspace, she came up with the idea for Lockdown Beauty. "My friends come to me for everything about what brands and products to use," Crispen says. "So it came to me while on a summer road trip…I need to make a livelihood out of this very concept."
And so she is.

We'll have what she's having: a sando from Katz's Deli glowing, youthful skin. On Monday, January 4th, San Rafael's Juice Beauty partnered with Kate Bosworth and her lifestyle website Kind.Est to launch Stem Cellular Anti-Wrinkle Retinol Overnight Serum. The clean, vegan retinol serum helps minimize visible signs of aging and fatigue while you sleep via an innovative technology that avoids conventional chemical ingredients to keep skin looking and acting youthful. Yes, please.
ICYMI: Kate Bosworth is a longtime fan of clean beauty and JB, and uses Kind.Est as a platform to promote her beauty picks and get the word out that it's cool to be kind. "We are so proud to align with Juice Beauty because of their ongoing mission of sustainability and the use of organic ingredients, as well as their commitments to their nonprofit endeavors. The new retinol serum is a gentle, restorative serum that leaves you with a fresh glow," Bosworth says.

Sleeves, schmeeves. Wear your heart on your finger with Mejuri's San Francisco Dôme ring. Because hometown spirit. Inspired by the cables that line the Golden Gate Bridge, the handcrafted piece comes in 14-karat gold and retails for $475. The chunky beauty is the jewelry brand's most recent release and the fifth edition in its series of Dôme rings that celebrate cities that are home to Mejuri stores. Already launched rings include NYC, L.A., Toronto, and Boston. Coming later this year? No. 6—Austin.
We're thinking a little bicoastal action would be nice with a SF/NYC pairing—plus the GGB and Chrysler Building make a fantastic love match. Get stacked IRL at the Hayes Street store or shop online.

In just two weeks, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will be officially installed as our new prez and veep. Naturally, it's the ideal time for Local Food Adventures founder Lauren Herpich to launch an Inauguration Breakfast Box commemorating VP-Elect Harris' Oakland and East Bay roots, culinary favorites, and family ties.
Word is, Harris enjoys a daily breakfast of corn bread muffins and a cup of tea with honey. So the box—$49 for our 49th VP—includes: a package of Mom's Scratch Recipe Corn Bread from Everett & Jones Barbecue; a bag of loose-leaf tea from Papillon Quality Coffee; and a jar of wildflower honey from Oakland Honey Company. It also comes with jar of garam masala spice blend from Oaktown Spice Shop—a shout out to her mother's native India—and a free waffle coupon from the Home of Chicken & Waffles, which is owned by Harris' cousin.
You'll also get exclusive access to a live inauguration watch party starting at 8am on January 20th. Plus, a portion of sales from each box are donated to the PTA of Harris' Berkeley alma mater, Thousand Oakland Elementary School.
