The decorating style over the past few recession-racked years have been all about slapping on a coat of paint, wallpapering, reupholstering – basically any way of prettying up the less-than-perfect without breaking the bank. Here's hoping the new year brings more prosperity than the past one, but let's also hope that the upcycling, DIY mentality that's been prevalent stays put.
If you've resolved to keep the craft-train chugging through 2010, perhaps a gander at Swanky Swell's line of fabrics will get you motivated. Each style is created by local textile and interior designer Nina Jizhar, and is screen-printed by hand using non-toxic water-based ink. The fabric is a thicker weight, making it perfect for upholstery and other home decor uses. And if you need a little inspiration, Jizhar has started a Flickr page showcasing completed projects using Swanky Swell fabric, where you'll find ice buckets, wrought iron benches, and other items reborn with a little elbow grease and ingenuity.
