Imagine aerial acrobats cascading overhead, saucy burlesque performers careening, and pole dancers twirling amid glittering classical music fused with house bass and gypsy swing. Bay Area composer and DJ, Mason Bates, and Mercury Soul returns to DNA Lounge with an eclectic entourage of performers for their latest hybrid music and multimedia event, Burlesque & Beats. The team has worked with multiple orchestras including Chicago, New World, and Pittsburgh Symphonies in a number of sold out shows. Most recently, they've focused on the Bay Area with equally successful concerts.

Friday's program will consist of the pulsing sounds of classical-meets-French house and EDM in eight sets including aerialist/ violin improv, Darius Milhaud: Le Boeuf sur le Toit, and various gypsy cabaret. Expect to be swathed in dazzling projections and lighting with elements of 1920s French culture including burlesque, cabaret, and vaudeville. Created to bridge the gap between cutting-edge and traditional, these "mercury interludes" will undoubtedly make you rethink what defines classical music culture.
