Circa Survive + Thrive @ City National Civic
Anthony Green is a man of many lyrical hats, doubling both as a well-decorated solo artist and, perhaps most notably, serving as Circa Survive's lead front man. Green and clan will be gracing the City Civic Nation center this Thursday on their The Amulet promotionaltour, with the California natives of Thrive opening up for them. Expect highlights from Circa Survive's catalog, such as from their 2007 indie-rock-metal tour de force album On Letting Go. // Thursday, Nov 2nd starting at 7pm at City National Civic, 135 W San Carlos St. (San Jose); tickets ($30) can be bought on ticketmaster.com
Tyler the Creator @ The Warfield
The melodious rap genius and lyricists Tyler the Creator has a Cinderella story of sorts, having been born into less-than-desirable circumstance to now grabbing lunch with Beyonce and Jay Z; and all largely thanks to his innate ability to whip-up and spit-out celebrated bars. Now he's taking that aforementioned talent on the road for his Flower Boy Tour, centered around his most commercially successful and critically acclaimed mixtape yet, Flower Boy. See for yourself (live) Tuesday at The Warfield just why Pitchfork proclaimed his latest ten-track album as something between "the angst of a missed connection, the pain of unrequited love, and navigating youthful ennui." // Tuesday, October 31st starting at 8pm at Warfield Theater, 982 Market St. (Tenderloin); tickets ($30-$50) can be bought on axs.com
Max Frost @ Rickshaw Stop
Known for his fine-tuned ways around a bevy of instruments—but, most recognizably, a strung guitar—Max Frost describes himself as someone who writes and performs to "personify love, money, and death as a drug, reflecting the way my submission to imagination has consumed me like a chemical." Taking cues from both past and present cultural touchstones like Amy Winehouse and Raphael Saadiq, his lyricism and vocal cadences span the gambit of the human condition, emoting the struggles and successes of everyday life. Head to the Rickshaw stop to hear the twenty-five year-old up and comer swoon the crowd during his Bay Area stop for his A.D.D tour. // Thursday, November 2nd starting at 8pm at Richshaw Stop, 155 Fell St. (Hayes Valley) ; tickets ($15) can be bought on ticketfly.com
OK Go @ The Fillmore
Hailing from the same city that jump started the careers of Oprah Winfrey and Former President Barack Obama, OK Go, too, began their ascent to global notoriety in the Windy City. And, just as famous as they are for their tongue-and-cheek, rock-pop chart topping singles like Here it Goes Again, OK Go is well known for putting together nearly three-hour set lists that feel as effortless as they do seamless—even when they jump to the crowds for impromptu Q&As. Hear a medley of their past and present hits and fan favorites at The Fillmore this Wednesday evening. // Thursday, November 2nd starting at 8pm at The Fillmore, 1805 Geary Blvd. (NoPa); tickets ($34-$95) can be bought on livenation.com
Skream @ Halcyon
Oliver Dene Jones, better known by his stage name Skream, is a muse behind the turntable. The English electronic music producer was an early and influential exponent of the dubstep genre, helping shape the medium into mainstream acceptance. And, this Saturday, he'll be spinning his genre-bending and groundbreaking tracklist—including collabs with such pop-royalty as John Legend and Kelis—all night long at Halcyon; so be sure to stop by before you call you Saturday night over. // Saturday, November 4th from 10pm to 4pm at Halcyon, 314 11th St. (SoMa); tickets ($10-$25) can be bought on ticketfly.com
