Looks like the Civic Center Arts District is getting a new venue. Curbed reports that SFJazz has gotten the OK from the Planning Commission to build a 350-720 seat auditorium on Franklin and Fell. The 38,600 square foot concert and event hall is slated to open in the fall of 2012 (construction will begin next summer). According to an SFJazz official, the design is aims to evoke "the openness and fluidity of jazz" with a transparent ground floor allowing passerbys to look into the lobby, restaurant and music rehearsal room. We're excited to watch this one take shape.
