There are many ways to ring in the new year, and the resorts and lodges around year-round party central (Lake Tahoe) have just about most of them covered.

Care for three days of music and other forms of revelry? Then check out the inaugural Snow Globe Music Festival, which will be held Dec. 29-31 at Lake Tahoe Community College in South Lake Tahoe. A pretty amazing line up of Thievery Corporation, Pretty Lights, Bassnectar, The Glitch Mob and Porter Robinson will be among the 45 acts performing at the mostly outdoor, all ages, nighttime festival (dress warmly). For a less frenetic New Year’s Eve soiree, you might want to wander over to Heavenly Village in South Lake. Beginning at 6 p.m., you can take part in interactive games and experiences, witness the “Fear No Ice – Rock N Roll Show,” groove along to Band X and watch a spectacular fireworks show.

More than fireworks are in store on New Year’s Eve in Squaw Valley. There will be a dance party featuring the funk band Mojo Green and DJ Zeb Early at the Olympic House (21 and over), a dinner buffet and grand celebration -- dancing, kid’s play, cider and champagne toasts-- at the Resort at Squaw Creek ($76 adults and $26 for kids) and a torch light parade and fireworks show in the base area at 9:30 p.m.

Northstar has an all-day party planned, with DJs on the Village Stage beginning at 1 p.m., music by tribute band Led Zeppelin 2 – The Live Experience from 7 to 9 p.m. and a fireworks display at 9 p.m. The usual Village diversions – s’mores, ice skating, drink specials, etc. – also will be available.

For those who would like a more intimate and nourishing New Year’s Eve, Chef de Cuisine Jacob Ramos is offering a four-course prix fixe menu at Manzanita in the Ritz Carlton Lake Tahoe in Truckee ($200 per person includes meal, champagne toast, music, dancing and party favors).  Or visit the West Shore Café (across the road from Homewood Mountain Resort),which will feature Chef Bryce’s creations in a four-course prix fixe dining experience ($75 for adults, $25 for kids).
