Tomales Bay's beloved Nick's Cove gets a fresh renovation in time for summer
23 June 2022
For the first time in over 15 years, this iconic West Marin destination has just completed a beautiful renovation of its 12 cottages, making them more luxurious, bright and inviting while remaining true to their classic spirit and character.
Five of the cottages are situated on pilings at the edge of Tomales Bay, and at high tide guests are lulled to sleep by the sound of waves lapping at the shore. The seven cottages across Highway One are nestled amongst eucalyptus trees and back up to a peaceful hillside garden called the Croft, which is bursting with herbs and native flowers. In the morning, complimentary breakfast is delivered to each cottage, and guests are encouraged to bring their coffee up to the Croft, meander along the garden paths and take up a game of bocce ball while admiring the view.
The evolution of Nick’s Cove continues with the restaurant getting a facelift later this summer. The waterfront restaurant is known for its seasonal menu curated by chef Kua Speer that showcases the bounty of the California coast and utilizes local cheese, fish, meat and veggies. During the pandemic, the restaurant expanded its outdoor seating options—including seating along the 300 foot pier and out at the iconic Boat Shack—and shifted to a more casual and accessible counter service model to better serve guests and keep everyone safe. The restaurant upgrades will focus on preserving the character of the property, while creating updated spaces where guests will be able to fully appreciate the gorgeous views and serene surroundings.
Just in time for summer, kayaks and paddle boards are available for guests of the cottages to take out on the bay, and weather permitting, staff can light a bonfire on the private beach so guests may make s’mores and star-gaze.
