Nature lovers, hikers, and outdoor photographers, rejoice!
In honor of Veterans Weekend, November 11th through 12th, the NPS (National Park Service) is opening the gates to all 400 nationally recognized parks—free of charge.
Exploring the pristine acreage nestled within our National Parks has always been something of a frugal outing, with entrance and parking fees (for the most part) never exceeding $30 in total. However, there's been talk in Washington that those rates may well double quite soon, inevitably increasing once nominal nature-going fees to $100-plus tickets. So, suffice to say, now may be as good a time as ever to pack-up the hybrid hatchback and head in whichever cardinal direction of your choice to explore some of our nation's natural splendors and green-hued treasures.
Need some help honing-down that aforementioned lofty park count? Check out our NPS Bucket List to get insider tips at some of our favorite (and closest) parks to take on next fall's weekend.
But hey, if you can't make the trek out to an NPS gem—odds are there's a public park near you to enjoy a well-spread picnic or relaxing yoga session atop of.
Either way: let's all put down the phone for a hot minute and just take a few deep breaths outside. Our bodies and minds would appreciate it. // For more details on the NPS—including information on the eleven parks found in The Golden State—visit www.nps.gov
