Its all part of a ginormous blow-out of a70th Anniversary Celebration of The Wizard of Oz.
In San Francisco, this means a special one night never before screened theatrical presentation of a brand new masterfully re-mastered, high definition Wizard of Oz, on September 23. In San Fran, the film will be screened at Century 9 San Francisco Centre. It will also play in other Bay Area cities as part of a 450 movie theaters stopping everything to go Hi Def Oz on the same day
The Ozmania extends from chic to chintzy, from Manolo Blahnik to McDonalds’ Happy Meals. There’s an Musical Dorothy Barbie, fine art, Reality TV product placement, a seven-and-a-half story, decorated Wizard of Oz Hot Air Balloon that's been flying across the country and, they’ll be the Emerald Gala on September 24 at New York’s “Tavern on the Green.” The gala features a yellow brick road and a musical performance by Lorna Luft, Judy’s daughter.
And of course, they’ll be Warner Home Video’s September 29 release of The Wizard of Oz 70th Anniversary Blu-Ray Ultimate Collector’s Edition.
The shoe show, The Ruby Slipper Collection will be on display at Saks SF staring October 21 and the collection, original design sketches, as well as select pieces from The Inspirations of Oz Fine Art Collection will be auctioned online beginning September 10 to benefit the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation.
