Seattle-born Mike Hadreas, known as Perfume Genius, is making waves with his art-pop/electronica singles, "Queen" and "I'm a Mother." After battling drug addiction and surviving rehab, his first two albums were cast off YouTube for "mature sexual content," which, of course, was the beginning of his faithful following. Now, with his new critically acclaimed album, “Too Bright,” Hadreas has salvaged his risqué reputation by toning down his sexual-identity angst.

“There’s a ton of stuff in my life I’m not proud of,” Hadreas tells W Magazine, “This record isn’t one of them.”

True to his representation of the gay community, Hadreas uses his videos, music, and lyrics to symbolize the pervasive unease experienced by many members of the LGBT community. Perfume Genius—the musical equivalent of a lovechild between David Bowie and Arcade Fire—will be donning his signature sequined tank, glistening lipstick, and manicured red nails, as he brings his boisterous beats and lustful lyrics to the Greek Theatre in Berkeley on April 12.
