The SF SPCA, one of the city's most beloved nonprofits celebrated a milestone with two very warm days of celebrations for young and old, furry and fuzzy, winged and flat-footed—including a lively Friday evening cocktail reception, and a Saturday street carnival complete with a much-anticipated pet costume contest and a surprise announcement. Both days also featured a very successful adoption cycle, with many rescues finding loving, qualified homes.
Friday evening's 7x7-sponsored happy hour featured specialty cocktails from SKYY Spirits, plus wine and beer; a rocking soundscape from local DJ outfit Funknchunk; and a fun photo station through Live Foto SF. Several stations were staffed by SF SPCA partners including UberSF and Zipcar, and new pals at BMW DriveNow.
Saturday afternoon crowds found a fun street carnival (designed by SF SPCA board member Ken Fulk's team) on Alabama and 16th, complete with a popular beer garden; complimentary collectors' shirts from Anthem Screen Printing (including doggy shirts!); more photo station snaps; live bands, including a special anniversary-themed performance from Beach Blanket Babylon; and a bevy of booths featuring local pet-centric businesses like K9 Scrub Club.
Saturday's highlight—a super-cute pet costume contest hosted by 7x7—was capped by a surprise announcement from Sup. David Campos and the SF SPCA's leadership team including co-presidents Jennifer Scarlett, DVM, and Jason Walthall: the street in front of the SF SPCA's Adoption Center would be renamed Rescue Row!
This was in honor of the SF SPCA's long history, as well as the work done by its acclaimed veterinary hospital, and neighbors including Muttville, SF Animal Care & Control, and many more!
