There are now two Mountain View sushi outposts with the name Masa, and they're definitely related.Masa Sushi Japanis the newcomer to the scene, with sushi rolls prepared by a reportedly friendly crew. For over two and a half decades, Masa Uehara has had a popular sushi sit down restaurant on San Antonio Avenue known for reasonable prices, fresh fish, and delectable unagi, as well as good service. The newer outpost carries fresh product, with a focus on rolls. There are ample pictures of the food to help with ordering, and you can round out that meal with sushi restaurant stalwarts such as seaweed salad, miso soup, or edamame when feeling particularly virtuous. Note that this Masa's branch is mainly a to-go operation with only a few counter seats, so plan accordingly. 650 Castro, Mountain View

San Mateo has an increasingly hot Sichuan scene with new owners, décor, and menu for China Bistro— the umbrellas hanging from the ceiling are especially catchy. The new menu for this lunch and dinner spot now rocks Dan Dan noodles (otherwise known as or dandanmian), salt pepper squid, and beef tendon Chinese chives clay pot. There's also porridge and dim sum options on the large menu and for those pining for pigs intestine, rice vermicelli, or spareribs with radish in a clay pot, there are many flavorful combinations worth exploring. 111 East 4th Ave., San Mateo.

The quest for snacks may be an ongoing pursuit for most, and a new shop in San Mateo has both sweet and savory options aplenty. Snacks carries traditional treats from chicharrones, to papaya smoothies, shakes, and other antojitos Mexicanos. With summer swimsuit season around the corner, the fresh cut fruit looks especially appealing, but the urge to splurge and add that crema to the order still beckons.
