The Ultimate Guide to SailGP's Season 3 Grand Final in San Francisco
26 April 2023
To close out a year of eye-popping sailing in iconic venues around the globe, SailGP is bringing nine national teams to battle it out on the bay for the season's overall best. Get ready for a series of intense races that will see the sport's top international athletes navigating their epic, high-tech hydrofoiling catamarans in excess of 60 miles per hour along a racecourse between Alcatraz Island and the Golden Gate Bridge.
The close-to-shore racing takes place over two days and offers San Francisco residents and visitors traveling for the event a zoomed-in view of the action from the official race village on Marina Green.
Ultimately, the Grand Final will pit the three highest-ranked teams in the leaderboard in a one-off winner-takes-all race to be crowned the SailGP Champion.
Want to root for the "home team?" Team USA flight controller Hans Henken and strategist Daniela Moroz both hail from SF.
The action will go down from 2:30pm to 4pm each day, with access to the race village open to ticket-holders at 1:30pm. Find out how to watch the Mubadala SailGP Grand Final in San Francisco below.

The SailGP Race Village at Marina Green promises a front view of the races from grandstand seating along with live commentary, food and drink.
Grandstand Seating at the SailGP Waterfront Village
Hope for sunshine: San Francisco's iconic Marina Green will host the official SailGP Race Village. Your ticket will get you access to tiered grandstand seating on the waterfront, right next to the finish line, where live commentary and broadcast viewing will put you close to the action. Food and drinks will be available for purchase in the race village. // Grandstanding seating is$75 per person (kids under 5 are free) with advance reservations; get tickets.
On the Water With Red & White Fleet
When a seat on the grandstand just won't cut it, jump right into the action with a seat on an official spectator boat courtesy of SF's own Red & White Fleet. You'll feel the wind in your hair as the world's best sailors literally fly past. What could be more thrilling than witnessing the sport at its fastest and finest while nibbling canapés and sipping cocktails from the hosted premium bar. The three-hour experience also includes live onboard commentary and large viewing screens on the indoor decks.
Got your own boat or want to charter one for the event? A special program and a souvenir flag will grant you access inside the exclusion zone to watch the high-speed action on both race days from the racecourse boundary—aka, this is as close as you're ever going to get. (Note: Without that flag, all other boats will be kept outside the exclusion zone at least 200 meters behind.) Boaters will be able to hear live race commentary over VHF, and SailGP will offset their carbon footprint for race day.
