There are many quick mood fixers in San Francisco: Biking, Golden Gate sunsets, a day at the de Young, a sweet treat from Tartine Bakery, the Polish martini at Blondie's. Likewise, a trip to SOMA's HD Buttercup always revives the spirit. If you need a lift, peruse HD Buttercup's new addition: the Millworks shop-in-shop, inspired by happy-go-lucky LA-based textile designer Andrea Bernstein.

Bernstein sought to put the fun back into design and she succeeded. Botanical and hippie prints, mixing underdogs like weeds and wild flowers with topdogs like dahlias and peonies, are individually hand printed onto plush pillows and bedding. The pillows are as fluffy as the prints and made from 100% cotton, with a 95% feather and 5% down filling, except the metallic linen pillows which are 100% linen. The peace sign pillow makes for a wonderfully trippy gift, while the duvet covers would brighten the most mellow Outer Sunset bedroom.

All the materials are true to California, from the indigenous flowers to the eco-friendly water based inks, the fabrics made in LA, and the screen printing done by hand in downtown LA. Marimekko and Pucci prints may come to mind—Bernstein was inspired by her mother's groovy '70s wardrobe. She also references her neighbor's succulent garden and her own personal rose garden.

Bernstein's prints evolve with the seasons and upholstered furniture will soon join the Millworks space. The future is looking bright.
