Seven days to make a festival-ready 7-15 minute short film, from conception to polished final product? Competitors in the first ever Seven Day Film Festival will do just this from August 2 through August 9, vying for the grand prize of $1000. Like The 48 Hour Film Project, competitors will receive "secret constraints" on the first day of the filmmaking period to ensure they can't work on the film sooner. All entries will be shown over four public screenings at the festival, held August 22nd & 23rd at the Ninth Street Independent Film Center.
These won't be your average YouTube shorts. The jury of judges includes includes Mark Berger, a four-time Academy Award winner for Best Sound (Apocalypse Now, The Right Stuff, Amadeus, and The English Patient); Associate Director of Academy of Art University’s Film School Jonathan Fung; and Board Chair of Bay Area Women in Film & Media Ondine Kilker. In addition to the grand prize, the festival will award an audience prize as well as smaller prizes for editing, music, acting, etc. Each screening will feature about 10 films ($8) and the awards ceremony will be held on Sunday, August 23rd at 7pm. If you're a filmmaker up for the challenge, the festival is still accepting registrants. The entry fee is $160.
