SF Street Style: Breezy Colors, the Marc by Marc Jacobs It Bag, Denim Done Right + Cork Pumps on Yerba Buena Lane
27 June 2011
I photographed Christine Tusher, SF editor for TheRundown.com, after our fun lunch at Bluestem Brasserie, on Yerba Buena Lane. It makes me so happy to see people flash their bright colors when the sun's out in SF. The cheerful color combo, paired with the sheer, flowiness of this top made Christine's casual denim day look really stand out again the business-casual downtown lunch crowd.
What she's wearing: Carolee gold hoop earrings from Loehmann's. Whispy, multi-color, printed top by Bellatrix, purchased at Nordstrom. Rivka Friedman chain and link long necklace, purchased from Hautelook.com. Michael Kors oversized face gold watch from Nordstrom. Self designed wedding ring, purchased at Meritage Jewelry Concepts in Lafayette. Yellow Marc by Marc Jacobs leather cross-body bag, from Nordstrom. 7 For All Mankind boot-cut jeans from Saks Off5th.com. Brown strappy cork MIA pumps, purchased from Loehmann's.
A simple hoop earring is always in style, but make it modern by opting for an unusual shape or simple details like bamboo inspired hoops.
So much of apparel design is about how the clothing moves. I love the flow and ease of this breezy blouse. I'm also a big fan of women rocking men's (or ispired by men's) watches -- the larger face is stylish and so flattering.
The oh-so popular Marc by Marc Jacobs convertible bag. I like the simple design and wide selection of traditional-to-funky colors these bags come in -- unique colors help make a trendy bag more personal.
Big tip: Often, shoes are made with a fake cork, but if you get a pair with a full cork platform and heel, it'll feel like you're walking on a cloud. So comfy.
7 Style Questions for Christine:
1. Which summer trends are you loving right now?
Maxi skirts and dresses! I love that I can wear something flowy and summery without freezing on a chilly San Francisco evening.
2. What trends are you hating?
Flatforms. They give everyone cankles.
3. Where's a girl to go for date night in SF?
I love Alexander's Steak House. My husband and I went there once when we were having a really bad day, but now all we remember about that day was our meal. The service had a lot to do with it -- our waiter was attentive without being overbearing, and suggested some really great wine pairings.
4. Where are the best dressed people in SF kicking it?
I recently ate at Boxing Room in Hayes Valley and noticed a lot of people looking their best. And it was fun because it was a diverse crowd in terms of age demographic, too. I love seeing older couples get dressed up for each other!
5. What are your favorite Bay Area shops?
I'm a total bargainista, so I always hit Marshalls and Loehmann's first to snag quality brands at a discount. Otherwise, I love Showroom in Mill Valley. Not only do they stock some of my favorite designers (I covet anything T by Alexander Wang) but their sale rack never disappoints.
6. What's your beauty secret weapon?
I love my Peter Thomas Roth Sulfur Cooling Mask. I dab it on whenever I feel like I'm getting a blemish and leave it on overnight. I notice my skin clears much more quickly that way.
7. What's your all-time fashion pet peeve?
Clothes that don't fit properly. It doesn't matter how much something cost or how cute the item is on the rack, the wearer always looks cheap if the pockets smile or if she's spilling out of it.
