Urban Air Market Is Baaack
With the sudden arrival of summer comes the well-timed Urban Air Market, making its return with more than 130 local artisans, sustainable makers, and emerging designers. For the first time, the biannual event is partnering with Fashion Revolution, a global grassroots movement all about demanding transparency in the fashion industry. There will be fabulous green shopping (prime Mother's Day gifting ops, people), performances by local musicians, and yummy street grub. You can even get in on the making a Re:fashion workshop from The Loome. // 11am to 6pm, Sunday May 7 at Patricia's Green, Octavia St. at Hayes St. (Hayes Valley), urbanairmarket.com
T-Shirt Dresses Forever
Everybody's favorite Bay Area hoodie maker, American Giant, is hoping to become everybody's favorite dressmaker, too. Yes siree, American Giant just launched its first collection of frocks in tank, tee, and maxi styles ($48-$69). Naturally, they all come in AG's super premium, soft slub cotton, as well as in a slew of shades including bright cherry, olive, deep blue, and black. The drape is amazing and the maintenance level is low. Get some. // americangiant.com
Current/Elliott Lands in SF
Clearly, hip denim brands cannot get enough of Pac Heights' main shopping drag. Just yesterday, Current/Elliottopened on Fillmore Street (in the former Crosswalk Shoes space), joining Paige, Rag & Bone and 45R. The L.A. label's third standalone boutique (the others are in Venice and Chicago) is stocked with denim, sportswear, menswear, and one-of-a-kinds from its Loved + Found collection. Sure to be of particular interest to SFers: the new summer collection, a celebration of the Summer of Love's big 5-0. Groovy. // 2122 Fillmore St. (Pacific Heights), currentelliott.com
Feelin' Hella Good
Natasha Wong and Daniel Lee just had to do it—the owners of Hayes Valley's Seldom Seen, both SF natives, have started a line that celebrates their favorite saying: Hella Good. "To us, it just represents home, our youth, and love for our hometown," says Wong. Like their urban-prep-meets-street-style clothing shop, the designers are starting small. Currently, the just-launched line includes an enamel pin (it's an exact replica of the neon sign that lives in the store) and a yummy, all-cotton sweatshirt made for kids ($45) and adults ($75) that's perfect for combatting Karl the Fog. Best in Shade
Hello, Mirrorcakes. The brand-new collection of sunnies from SF's Westward Leaningis bound to make a splash (and become the subject of way too many selfies). The summer capsule collection of three lightweight styles ($275) reinterprets the brand's classic Vanguard silhouette as a modern, rimless frame with flat lenses and touches of metallic, rose gold, or neon ombre. Smoke and mirrors indeed. // westwardleaning.com
Marimekko Fans, You Better Sit Down…
For the first time ever, the iconic Finnish design house has put together a limited-edition capsule collection starring five classic designs that haven't seen the light of day since the 1960s and '70s. The collection includes four dresses and a skirt that are near replicas of the originals, as well as 11 modern interpretations of vintage designs—tops, skirts, trousers, and scarves (deep breaths). Where can you find these beauties? Marimekko in Palo Alto (180 El Camino Real), Anthropologie in Walnut Creek (1149 S Main St.)and, of course, online atmarimekko.com.
