Allbirds launches high-tops, American Giant does women's denim + more style news
21 November 2018
Plus, the San Francisco Ballet teams with Athleta for a pretty new capsule collection, Parachute Home opens on Hayes Street, and Juice Beauty pops up on Black Friday. Have a stylish week!
All hail the Tree Topper. The first high-top sneaker from the Jackson Square biz is poised to woo a fleet of new feet—those seeking sustainable comfort and ankle coverage. Allbirds fifth style is groundbreaking in another respect, too: It's the first to feature all three of the brand's natural materials: Tree fabric (eucalyptus tree fiber), a touch of superfine merino wool from New Zealand, and SweatFoam soles (powered by Brazilian sugarcane). Available for men and women, they retail for $115, and come in charcoal and kauri jo, as well as two limited-edition hues, fiddle leaf and zin. Sounds like our kind of bird. // 57 Hotaling Pl. American Giant just launched its first pair of women's jeans: the 218 Skinny, a classic silhouette in a dark wash (très flattering), available in sizes 25 to 33. The SF brand spent much time getting the fabric just right, eventually landing on a light-as-a-feather, tough-as-nails cotton blend with plenty of stretch. As for the fit? American Giant focused on the "hook," a.k.a. the backside—making sure ladies' derrières look good from every angle. (Check out a pair and let us know what your booty thinks.) The L.A.-made denim retails for $148. // Available online and at the flagship store, 165 Natoma St. (FiDi), american-giant.com.

A few days ago, the latest wunderkind in the no-fuss, luxe bedding world opened a gorgeous boutique on Hayes Street. Parachute's presence is comforting for plenty of reasons—mainly, you can get your paws on the super-soft sheets in the real world. ICYMI, the e-darling makes minimalist (reasonably priced) bedding by top craftspeople around the globe. It's also lauded for dreamy towels and other bath essentials, kitchen and tabletop items, candles, baby stuff, and more. Kudos to the Venice Beach brand for incorporating such SF locals as Heath Ceramics and artist Ethan Caflisch into the store design. We're also grateful Parachute decided to keep the back door entrance into the Clare V. store on Linden St.—guess it's officially time to get over the Steven Alan closing. // 445 Hayes St. (Hayes Valley), parachutehome.com
There's nothing like a good pop-up to get you out of your turkey-stuffing-and-pie coma, we always say. Precisely why you'll find us in the lobby of SF's Hotel Zetta on Friday, November 23rd when a month-long pop-up from Juice Beauty debuts. You'll find an array of the Marin company's organic, plant-based skincare and makeup including plenty of gift-y things. We'll be making a beeline for the Colors of California Liquid Lip Set, which stars vibrant shades with celeb-y names including Gwyneth, Cameron, Drew, Blythe, and Cameron. Makeup and skincare consultations, and a special gift with purchase, are also part of the fun. // Noon to 8pm Wednesday through Sunday, through Dec. 21; 55 5th St. (SoMa) ), hotelzetta.com

Just in time for Nutcracker season, the Gap Inc. brand drops a new dance capsule on Tuesday, November 27th. The coolest thing about the 11-piece collection—designed for the dance and yoga studio, and for gliding around town—is that Athleta designers teamed up with dancers from the San Francisco Ballet for their insights. As a result, the tights, pants, leotards, support tanks, wraps and, yes, leg warmers are made to move with the body, lengthen lines, and hug muscles. The color palette includes pretty shades of sugarplum mauve and regal plum, among others. (We see what you did there.) Prices range from $48 to $148. Available online and in stores. // 2226 Fillmore St. (Pacific Heights), athleta.com
