A Bendy new sneaker gives Allbirds a run for its money + more stylish news
06 September 2018
Plus, NYC's famed luxury boutique Jeffrey has opened in Palo Alto, Selena Gomez's new collection pops up at Neiman Marcus Union Square, and more retail dish.
Is Bendy the next Rothy's or Allbirds?
SFers Mary Sue Papale and Yvette Turner sure hope so. The cofounders of eight-year-old Ashbury Skies, a curated website filled with cool pairs from indie shoe designers, created the Bendy because they couldn't find a modern comfort shoe with a lower environmental footprint. Their Kickstarter campaign launched Wednesday, and they're well on their way to reaching their $20,000 goal. In case the name didn't give it away, the notched sole is super flexible. The shoe also sports a buttery soft leather upper and crazy cushiony footbed. Plus, they're ethically handcrafted in Los Angeles and generate way less CO2 emissions than the average sneaker. Did we mention all the shades (black, blue, red, grey, and mustard) are r-a-d? Obvi, we're kickin' in. You? // ashbury skies.com
Neiman Marcus SF plays pop-up host for Coach x Selena Gomez collection.
Through Friday, September 14th, you can get up close and personal with the sophomore edition of this spicy-sporty collab. No surprise, the new collection from the lifestyle brand and pop singer features small leather goods and accessories—including two new bag styles The Bond and The Trail. They're made of smooth leather and finished with antique-inspired crystals and bows. (Girly girls, this one's for you). The real revelation, though, is that ready-to-wear pieces are also part of the mix: Think silk slips with lace and cozy sweaters and hoodies in retro pastel shades. Most pieces range from $85 to $395. (We see you bunny bag.) To celebrate, the retailer is throwing a bash on Saturday, September 8th (noon to 3pm) with a DJ, photobooth, sips and snacks. Sadly, Selena will only be there in spirit. // 150 Stockton St. (Union Square), coach.com, neimanmarcus.com.
Bay Area fashion folk have a new shopper's paradise thanks to Jeffrey Kalinsky.
Indeed, Jeffrey, the new 12,000-square-foot specialty store in Stanford Shopping Center, has sartorially minded ladies and gents giddy with delight—and happily making their way to Palo Alto for designer goodies. Welcome to the inimitable Mr. K's third ridiculously (and meticulously) curated luxury emporium, and the first on the West Coast; New York and Atlanta are numbers one and two. It's hard to know where to commence shopping in the cavernous light-filled space as every dress, suit, shoe, and bag is more covetable than the next. Labels include Gucci, Prada, Miu Miu, Celine, Christian Dior, Balenciaga, Dries Van Noten, Rick Owens, Valentino, and more. Don't worry, Cali-cool dressers, there's plenty for you to drool over, too (think denim, tees, sweaters, and leather jackets). // 660 Stanford Shopping Center (Palo Alto), jeffreynewyork.com
