Calling all design and architecture buffs! The Silicon Valley Modern Home Tour (Saturday, May 16) opens the doors to some historic Midcentury houses you won't want to miss.
(Pietro Belluschi's "Life House," built in 1958)
Benefitting Santa Clara nonprofit Vision Literacy, the self-guided tour offers a rare glimpse into six private homes (read: not for sale), including San Mateo's award-winning “Life House,” originally designed by Pietro Belluschi in 1958. Updated by the current owner, the split-level residence is calling our name with a steam room, outdoor spa, two fireplaces, a wraparound deck, and a view of Treasure Island.
("The Truly Open Eichler")
Eichler fans will find much to love with three homes by the iconic architect, including a Palo Alto post-and-beam house with light pouring through its floor-to-ceiling windows; an atrium-style home in Sunnyvale built in 1967; and the so-called “Truly Open Eichler,” with completely retractable walls that transform interior living space into an open air pavilion.
("The Truly Open Eichler" defines indoor/outdoor living.)
Jointly curated with Monique Lombardelli of Modern Homes Realty, the self-guided touralso includes a couple of brand-new modern homes. // Silicon Valley Modern Home Tour, Sat., May 16 (11am to 5pm); tickets are $40 or $30 in advance, purchase online here.
