Step Aside, Sandra Lee: Local Designers Show How to Set a Table with Style
19 October 2009
These days 'setting the table' might consist of little more than swiping a pile of magazines to the side of the coffee table, but during the holidays everyone's eyeing ways to step up their home dining experience. For Thanksgiving hosts planning to forgo the cornucopia-and-dried-corn centerpieces of stodgy home magazine,s or obsessive color palette 'tablescapes' made (in)famous by Sandra Lee, we suggest trying a fresh approach. Need a little inspiration? Beginning this Thursday, Gumps, in conjunction with DIFFA (Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS), will be celebrating the Art of the Table with displays of fantastical dining vignettes created by top San Francisco designers Orlando Diaz-Azcuy, Martha Angus, Ken Fulk and Claudia Juestel. Stop by on Thursday from 5:30 to 8PM for a panel discussion with the designers, a peek at their creations, and noshes and wine to get into the spirit. Consider the event a tray of delectable canapes to whet your appetite for the main course, DIFFA's Dining by Design, which takes place November 18-19. For more information and to RSVP, click here.
