Will it be the Steelers or the Packers? No matter who clobbers who this Super Bowl XLV, you'll need a comfortable seat, ice cold beer and snacks. Here's where the deals are at (outside your living room):
The Independent, 628 Divisadero St., 415-771-1421
Get front and center for the big game at the Independent, where they're showing all the action on a huge screen for FREE. There will obviously be plenty of alcohol, as well as pitchers of beer (which they don't do for concerts), and they encourage you to bring your own spread to munch on from one of the neighborhood's top-notch eateries, like ACME Burgers, Nopalito, Little Chihuahua, or Little Star.
3300 Club, 3300 Mission St. @ 29th St., 415-826-6886
Like a living room away from your living room, this light-filled corner bar is La Lengua's best watering hole for game watching, because it's where the real fans live. While you're cheering for the Steelers or the Packers, enjoy complimentary hot dogs, chili, and $1 off Bud, Bud Light, and Budweiser draught. If you'd rather eat a burrito or shawerma with your beer, stop by El Gran Taco Loco or Goood Frikin Chicken beforehand.
21st Amendment, 563 2nd St., 415-369-0900
Get sloshed on $2 cans of 21st Amendment's IPA, Black IPA, and Bitter American brews and soak it all up with their very Superbowl-worthy menu stars like meatloaf sliders, wings, buffalo chicken cobb salad, or burgers. You will leave happy.
Mad Dog in the Fog, 530 Haight St., 415-626-7279
Ground zero for sports in the Lower Haight, Mad Dog's rolling out the specials for game day. PBR and Tecate are $3, a glass of shiraz or chardonnay will only set you back $7, and they're slashing the prices of pitchers of Bud and Hemp Ale to $15. They've also got hefty plates of some of the tastiest wings in town that come $15 for 20.
Kezar Pub, 770 Stanyan St., 415-386-9292
This legendary sports bar will be crowded, but it's hard to match the energy at Kezar. In fact, many of you have probably already watched every game of the season here. Hot wings and onion rings will be flowing as well as the beer, so come ready to rumble.
Rosamunde, 2832 Mission St., 415-970-9015
Just a few steps away from the 24th St. Bart station, you have to wade through the hipsters to get a spot at one of their picnic benches, but a sausage and beer combo from this place is so worth it. Their wild boar sausage comes highly recommended (although it's hard to go wrong here), and this Super Bowl, wash it all down with beer (they have over 70), because all pitchers will be $1 off.
Taco Shop at Underdog's, 1824 Irving St., 415-566-8700
The Holy Trinity of tacos, alcohol, and football convene here....what more do you need? They're sweetening the deal with $12 buckets of Coors Lights during game time, so if you're lucky enough score a seat here, don't give it up for anything.
Phoenix Bar & Irish Gathering House, 811 Valencia St. @ 19th St., 415-695-1811
This place is super central and packed with plasmas blaring Surround Sound, but if you're a Packers fan, you might want to stay away, because the Phoenix is Steelers territory. If you stop by, come early, and come hungry. Go traditional with Guinness and their signature soda bread, bangers and mash and even shepherd's pie....the food options here are endless.
Public House & Mijita, 24 Willie Mays Plaza, 415-622-0240
By now, Public House and Mijita at AT&T Park have established themselves as prime sports game viewing spots, and you can bet all of their almost 30 flat-screen TVs will be blaring Sunday's game. Our choices for grub are their specially-tailored snacks for the occasion; for Packers fans, try their soft homemade pretzels with Wisconsin Cheesy, Speakeasy "Big Daddy" Beer dip ($7), and for Steelers fans, get their Isaly's Chipped Chopped Ham and Swiss Sandwich served with warm special sauce ($12).
