Whether it’s a sign of a rebounding economy or happy coincidence, one thing’s for certain: new shopping destinations having been popping up left and right of late. From a weekend-only shop in Hayes Valley to a Mission location specializing in urban backpacks, here are five new spots for local retail therapy:

Hello by Candystore Collective: Very much the Pacific Heights sister of its Mission district predecessor, this shop opened in April by Candystore Collective owner Jennifer Jones focuses on women’s apparel and accessories from established and emerging brands. Visitors to the spacious shop will find Rachel Comey dresses, Marais USA footwear, Corey Lynn Calter dresses and Candace Ang jewelry mingling with wearables from local labels such as Serial Cultura, Stars + Ravens and 1228. Located at 2226 Bush St. (at Fillmore).

Mission Workshop: Tucked down a dead-end side street just off bustling 16th, this warehouse-like retail store is the place to go for backpacks and messenger bags from the new brand launched last year by Chrome founders Bart Kyzar and Mark Falvai. Best known for The Vandal, a backpack that expands to double its size when needed, the company makes gear that is functional enough for bike messengers, but slick enough looking for your daily commute via BART. Located at 40 Rondel Place (at 16th).

Gigi + Rose: From Delilah Crown designer Kristina De Pizzol comes this Ghirardelli Square store aimed primarily at women and little girls. Uber-cute children’s wear and a kids-only dressing room invite little ones to practice their try-on skills, while casual clothing for grown-up gals ranges from feminine dresses from De Pizzol’s label to versatile tops by Free People, Pete and Park Vogel. A selection of letterpress cards, travel guidebooks, bath products and whimsical gift items rounds out the mix at this shop named after the owner’s two daughters. Located at 900 North Point, Suite H103 (at Beach St.).

Storefront: Open on Saturdays and Sundays in May (except for Mother’s Day, when the shop is closed), this Hayes Valley pop-up shop offers designer brands, emerging labels and vintage apparel and accessories. Last weekend’s opening day featured choice finds from Fashionisette, fashion photography by Michelle M. Mitchell and a sangria bar.

The Brooklyn Circus: Sure, it may not be a brand new establishment, but this local retailer’s store space will certainly be new to you if you haven’t stopped by recently. After flooding forced the Fillmore Street destination for dapper men’s apparel to close and spend weeks remodeling, the shop is back and better than before. Along with revamped interiors, the store offers a new shoe salon featuring kicks from brands such as Sebago, Thorocraft and Spring Court.
