The first and still the largest of its kind, the San Francisco Jewish Film Festival continues to deliver the very best in independent Jewish cinema—offering the full gamut of films, festivities, special programs and international guests to highlight 5772 years of illustrious culture.
From July 25th 'til August 12, the SFJFF takes over the Castro Theater, the JCCSF, the Cinearts Theatre in Palo Alto, the Christopher B. Smith Rafael Film Center in San Rafael as well as The California Theatre in Berkeley, and the Grand Lake Theater and New Parkway Theater in Oakland–so you can explore the Bay Area while taking in the fest's awesome programming.
This year, they'll be a spotlight on the work of Alex Karpovsky. This Jewish filmmaker, who you probably know from HBO's Girls, has oft been called the next generation's Woody Allen, for his on-screen and off-screen neurotic persona. See him in action in his biting comedy satire on himself, Red Flag, followed by a clip reel of his work as a director and actor, with a live on-stage conversation with the man himself at the historic Castro Theater on July 27.
