It's not every day you can get up close and personal with the posessions of Egypt's best-known pharaoh. But starting June 27, history buffs can check out King Tut's treasures when Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs opens at the de Young. This marks the first time in thirty years that Northern Californians have the opportunity to see the famous pharaoh's artifacts since the de Young's very first, record-breaking exhibit in 1979. Visitors will have the chance to view over 130 relics from King Tut's tomb and other ancient Egyptian sites, plus an additional selection of artifacts new to the traveling exhibition. Patrons will also have the chance to see "Opening Tutankhamun's Tomb: The Harry Burton Photographs," a collection of 38 prints from the photographer who accompanied explorer Howard Carter on the expedition. Zahi Hawass, secretary general of Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities says, "San Francisco is a perfect place for King Tut. I want everyone in California to know that the boy king is coming to town, and I personally invite everyone to see this great exhibition so that a new generation of people will experience the history and magic of the boy king." There's your personal invite - you have until March 28, 2010 to take him up on it.
