Dress for Success Fashion Gala
Lights. Camera. Fashion. National non-profit Dress for Success, which provides professional attire and career development tools to disadvantaged women, is hosting a fashion gala this week, and you are cordially invited. A special keynote address by Jeannie Mai (style expert, TV personality, and Bay Area native) will talk about her role with the organization as well as her new TV show this fall, The Real. Enjoy cocktails, dinner, and a fashion show, bid for great prizes at the live and silent auctions, and spend the rest of the night getting down on the dance floor! All proceeds go to Dress for Success programs.

The Valley: Photo-Essays From California's Heartland
Not many of us can relate to contemporary life in the Central Valley, but a new exhibit of photographs at City Hall is hoping to change the way we see California's breadbasket. "The Valley" is comprised of nine photo essays, two of which are historical, and 100 photographs which include images from the 1970s, during the height of California's farm labor movement. See it for yourself.

Designing for the President of the United States
In 2008, Josh Higgins co-created an unofficial Barack Obama poster that drew national attention and caught the eye of Obama’s election team. Higgins went on to build and lead the design team for the president’s reelection campaign. Meet the man behind the poster this Thursday. Christopher Simmons, creative director of MINE, will interview Higgins as they discuss the creative process, the changing nature of design in the civic sphere, the use of design skills for good, and exactly why design matters to the president.

Temescal Street Cinema
TSC is a free summer outdoor movie series featuring the work of Bay Area film and video artists. Each week there will be live acoustic music, an Oakland-based food truck, experimental shorts, and a feature all on the streets of Oakland's northern neighborhood. This Thursday, they're screening The Galapagos Affair: Satan Came to Eden—a documentary about a 1930s murder mystery on the island of Floreana—so make sure to pack some liquid courage.

Jurassic Park, The Musical
Singing and dancing dinosaurs have made their way to San Francisco. Triassic Parq, a new rock musical that opened at The Eureka Theatre last week tells the story of the Velociraptors of Innocence, Faith and Science; T-Rex 1 and T-Rex 2; Mime-a-saurus and Piano-saurus, as they question their identity, gender, and place in the world after one female T-Rex suddenly turns male. Still skeptical? Triassic Parq won Best Musical at LA’s 2013 Ovation Awards and NY Fringe Festival 2010. Go figure.
