The man behind NPR's "A Prairie Home Companion" is taking a break from St. Paul, Minnesota to woo audiences in SF at this City Arts & Lectures event. Expect some tales from Lake Wobegon along with his signature brand of poetry, which we've heard can get a little raunchy at times ... in a good way, of course.

Bets are you've gotten down on the dance floor to local garage rockers Thee Oh Sees at least once. In anticipation of their forthcoming album, Castlemania, they'll be playing a more mellow than usual show in honor of their lo-fi roots. Bring your dancing shoes just in case.

If this guy's not on your radar screen, listen up. The Latvian-born author was recently named a "Top 20 Under 40" by The New Yorker, and his debut novel, The Free World, has received countless accolades. The New York Times has even likened the writer to greats like Philip Roth and Leonard Michaels.

Performance
The onstage revival of the 1979 minimalist masterpiece by choreographer Lucinda Childs, composer Philip Glass, and arist Sol Le Witt is a trippy manipulation of dancers past and dancers present. Bonus: Glass will be playing a solo piano matinee on the last day of the performance.

Sports
Get a double dose of bad-ass roller derby. At 6 p.m., the SF Shevil Dead battle it out with the Berkeley Resistance, and at 8 p.m., the Oakland Outlaws take on the Richmond Wrecking Belles.
