It's gonna be another cold, wintry weekend, folks. Head across the bridge for three great ways to warm up:
Horseback Riding in Las Trampas Regional Wilderness, San Ramon Okay, yes, horseback riding entails being outside where it's cold, but those beautiful beasts generate a lot of heat! Plus you'll have 5,000-odd acres of wilderness, mountain trails, and lovely views to take in, which should help. Las Trampas Stables has horses for rent and friendly staff on hand to take you out on a ride or provide lessons for those new to horses (call head to arrange: 925-862-9044).
Fire and Fashion and The Crucible Hot Couture is back to celebrate The Crucible's 14th birthday. The East Bay's groovy industrial arts center has constructed a massive 3D runway out of 20 tons of steel, featuring a central sculptural piece that will be on fire as models cruise through it down the runway, showcasing the work of local designers. Twelve teams comprised of fashion and industrial designers will present 48 pieces that combine the two disciplines and pay homage to both fire and The Crucible.
Ramen at the new Ramen Shop in Rockridge What better way to warm up than a steaming bowl full of noodles? The much-anticipated Ramen Shop is finally open in Rockridge. In addition to its super cool, industrial-chic design, the shop boasts a few Chez Panisse veterans and a focus on high-quality seasonal ingredients, like Llano Seco pork. They're making the noodles in-house, natch, and the bar features specialty cocktails concocted by Christa Manolo (formerly of Beretta).
