Happy almost Valentine’s Day, lovers. Last night was Love on Wheels, the dating game for bicycle lovers. There were so many bike/sex innuendoes that I was glad for today’s rainy commute to wash me clean. Just kidding, I’m totally going to use some of those lines on my sweetie.
While the weather isn’t great for a long bike ride today, this weekend and V-Day are supposed to be gloriously sunny and clear—perfect for a romantic bike ride. San Francisco’s full of beautiful vistas and perfect waterfront spots for smooching. Here are three of my favorites. Feel free to add your own suggestions in the comments.
Partner Pedal to Immigrant Point: At the top of the Presidio, overlooking Baker Beach and the ocean, is one of the most beautiful and romantic vistas in the city. On a sunny day, it’s filled with tourists, but sunset and evening is all yours. Pedal your way to the Presidio through the Arguello Gate and follow it to the breathtaking view. No, not the one over the Marina, the other one. For more bike fun, swing by Velo Rouge Cafe for a drink on the way home.
Bike Ride to the Beach: Load up your panniers or backpack with a blanket and goodies, and head to the beach for a romantic daytime picnic or evening snuggle. Wiggle and Panhandle your way to Golden Gate Park, and follow JFK Drive to the edge of the world. Warm up and cuddle at the Beach Chalet.
Waterfront pedal to Heron’s Head: Unlike the other two waterfront rides, this Bayfront romantic ride is far from the tourists and for locals only. Pedal your way along the new Greenway parallel to 3rd Street and onto the separated bikeway on Cargo Way. End at the newly renovated Heron’s Head center for a front and center view of the water and a romantic daytime picnic for you and your love (and maybe a few fisherman). Swing by The Ramp for a Bloody Mary and extended waterfront views.
