Unsure of what to do this weekend? Try out these ideas.
Saturday, August 18. Watch a Movie Featuring the Golden Gate Bridge.
The Golden Gate Bridge has probably starred in more movies than any other American architectural icon. In honor of its 75th anniversary, Van Buskirk, author of Celluloid San Francisco, offers a clip-filled program of hilariously horrifying depictions of the Bay Area’s beloved bridge. After the presentation we will be screening A View to a Kill. The movie showing is free, but due to popularity it is best to arrive early to guarantee a seat. Starts at 6 p.m. @ The Walt Disney Family Museum, 104 Montgomery Street.
Saturday, August 18. Take a Walking Food Tour
The 1.5 mile walk meanders around the Mission, stopping at five local food purveyors in three hours, during which you’ll meet the owners, chefs and industry experts, while noshing on their artisan specialties. Not only will you sample savory bites but as you stroll through the historic Latin neighborhood you will learn about its murals and history. Finally, your sweet tooth will get the better of you as the tour concludes with mouthwatering desserts near Dolores Park. The tour goes for three hours and costs $64 (with an optional $16 alcohol pairing). Tickets can be purchased here. The walk starts at 11 a.m. outside the Women's Building, 3543 Eighteenth Street between Valencia and Guerrero.
Sunday, August 19. Take a Private Tour of the SF Zoo
Take an exciting journey through the San Francisco Zoo and watch the animals start their day! The Early Bird Tour is a guided tram tour throughout the Zoo where you will see and learn about some incredible animals like ostriches, gorillas, penguins, koalas, kangaroos, sea lions, bears and more. You will be picked up where you and other tour-goers can experience the Zoo before it opens to the general public. For non members it costs $50 for adults and $25 for kids, tickets can be purchased here. The tour starts at 9:30 a.m. @ the SF Zoo, 1 Zoo Road, San Francisco.
