Tonight: de Young Museum's Mission Muralismo Film Series & Performances by Amaldecor
06 August 2010
Add this to the mountainous pile of awesome art events kicking off this weekend: the de Young Museum's got a lot going on tonight, starting at 5:30 pm with their excellent Mission Muralismo film series, showing Piece by Piece and one of the Berlin International Film Festival's favorites, Quality of Life (both stories of the city's graffiti and street art history). The Mission Muralismo series is a yearlong look at the Mission District's contributions to the city's unique art scene.
Musically, the museum's booked the band Amaldecor, an amalgam of awesome local musicians like John Vanderslice and members of Aphrodesia, the Mitch Marcus Quartet and the Japonize Elephants. They bust out their own blend of gypsy, Eastern European and American jazz manifested in both traditional and original material. They'll put on their swinging performances at 6:30 pm and 7:45 pm.
The event is free, although standard museum admission fees may apply. Stop by the Lower Haight Art Walk afterwards to make it a solid night of the best of city culture!
