2. SF Black Film Festival Starts Wednesday June 4
With a diverse array of films, that all celebrate African American culture through the medium of film, this ten-day event features 100 movies, parties and panels at multiple locations throughout the city.
3. "Bruce Connor: Mabuhay Gardens"
Legendary punk rock photog Bruce Connor brings his gritty depictions of ’70s SF nightlife to the Berkeley Art Museum starting Wednesday, June 4.
4. D-Structure Presents: “The State of Lower Haight”
Come check out a photographic glimpse of the unique world of the Lower Haight neighborhood at D-Structure’s exhibition “the State of Lower Haight,” in which Artists Graham Theil, Trevor Traynor and Halsey Chait bring this ’hood to life through portraits, mural installations and mosaics. This Friday, June 6 head over to the opening party—if you can’t make it, the exhibit runs through July 4.
5. Found Footage Festival
Want a dose or real reality TV? Then the Found Footage Festival—on Friday, June 6 at the Red Vic Theater—is for you. Featuring crazy home video moments, outlandish infomercials and other embarrassing moments caught on tape, you’ll wonder why you ever cared about Top Chef or Dancing with the Stars.
6. Dawn ’08 at the Contemporary Jewish Museum on Saturday June 7
To celebrate the long-awaited opening of the Contemporary Jewish Museum situated in the new-and-improved Jessie Square, the museum—with help from non-profit Reboot—is throwing an all-night party featuring live music, film screenings, spoken word performances and a preview of the museum before it opens to the public. Get ready to rock and stay up past your bedtime at this full spectrum cultural experience.
7. Erykah Badu
The queen of neo-soul brings her sultry grooves to the Paramount Theatre in Oakland on Sunday, June 8. Look out for new tracks from her latest effort New Amerykah Part Two (Return of the Ankh).
