If you want to have a successful night out in this town, you need a plan—and it better be a good one. Since it's not always easy to strike that perfect balance between pre-dinner drink, food and a show, we bring you the Triple Threat series — a block-by-block guide to nights out that only require one parking space. Today we tackle SoMa.
See: Keep the Thanksgiving holiday high going, by jumping right into Christmas celebrations the day after. Mark Foehringer's Nutcracker Sweets kicks off on Nov. 26 at the Children's Creativity Museum (221 4th St). It's a little more "out there" and light-hearted than the Tchaikovsky-set original—imagine what it would be like if Tim Burton had his way with the Mouse King. Lucky for you, Brown Paper Tickets doesn't age discriminate, so you can snag tickets here with no shame.
Eat: The show gets out at noon, so you'll have time to stroll over to Samovar Tea Lounge (730 Howard Street) in Yerba Buena gardens—a great spot to wash away your stuffing hangover. We suggest the clean Asian tea soup. Whatever tea you wish is gently poured over warmed rice, vegetables and smoked salmon or tofu. If you're still feeling gluttonous and celebratory, no shame. Hit the ginger quinoa waffle and chase it with the fudge brownie with green tea mousse.
Drink: Believe it or not, the bar on the 39th floor of the Marriot (55 4th St.) is the most festive-feeling nearby option for a post-snack beverage. It's called The View for a reason, and martinis are half price from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. so if you did the brownie above, you've got an excuse to keep the indulgences going. The drinks here skew a little cheesy—Sobieski's Karmal vodka makes an appearance—but they offer a text book margarita, a decent beer list, and the rush of soaring above actual skyscrapers. Those feeling the spirit might dub it priceless.
