A mainstay on the chichi stretch of Fillmore in Lower Pac Heights for the past 9 years, International Orange still has the same allure as it did when it first opened. It's an urban oasis in the middle of a bustling neighborhood and offers two types of yoga, massage, acupuncture, facials, peels, and waxing. If you haven't been already, it's about time you go check it out.
I recently stopped by for what they like to call the IO Triple Threat: yoga, steam room, massage. Unlike so many studios in the city, the classroom at IO is cozy and only fits about 12 or so people, which means extra special attention from the skilled instructors. The Vinyasa class I took flowed at a quick pace but slowed down nicely toward the end and really emphasized stretching out the muscles you just worked. But if you're looking for something more relaxing, they offer a restorative yoga class as well. End your workout in the steam room before heading off to your facial or massage. I opted for the hour-long essential oil massage with Kala, who is a bona fide miracle worker. She presented me with a choice of about 5 or 6 oils—I picked the Tangiers blend of lemongrass, ginger root, and citrus, which turned out to be heavenly. She left not a muscle in my body untouched and turned me into jello for the rest of the night. If you really want to do yourself in, hop back in the steam room so your skin can further absorb the oils, and then finish off with a quick rinse in the shower.
So often in the magazine world it's about what's new and next, but sometimes the oldies but goodies are the best discoveries.
