Like a good man, affordable vintage minus the musty dusties is hard to find. Luckily for those of us with a penchant for both the style and the price tags of decades past, a MobShopUnderground sale drops into town on Thursday for one day only. On the racks, expect a mixture of dresses, sweaters, sweater vests and other assorted vintage items from the 1950’s to the 1990’s priced from $25-$45, as well as designer apparel from Whitley Kros, Suh-Than and Streets Ahead belts for $10-$65. Rounding out the selection is a collection of vintage sunglasses from names such as Ray-Ban, American Optical and Persol on offer for $10-$150.

Just don’t call it a pop-up shop.
“We want you to walk in and feel like you’re at a boutique,” says Lauren Bingham, who co-founded the L.A.-based company with Romy Itzigsohn.

To that end, the sale will be held in a vacant street-level space that we hear is on its way to becoming an office shared by several artists, one of whom is a furniture dealer who’s lent the MobShopUnderground ladies a number of vintage furnishings for the event. Along with places to sit, there will be dressing rooms (a notable presence at any temporary shopping event) and an exclusive selection of prints by L.A.-based fine artist Neilah Meyers adding a dose of affordable ($40-$70) art to the sale.

Another perk: along with the relatively reasonable prices that come courtesy of the company’s lack of overhead, many vintage pieces have been altered to fit the here and now. That means bye-bye hideous sleeves, schlumpy mid-calf hemlines and linebacker shoulderpads. You’ll find examples of how dresses are edited and altered on the blog.
