The Warriors supposedly voted to boycott a Trump White House visit
13 June 2017
While a Warriors spokesperson has denied these reports, that hasn't stopped anyone from asking questions about what it would mean for our team and for our state if the Warriors were to boycott their meet-and-greet with the prez.
As reported by The New York Times today, Josh Brown of CNBC's Halftime Report tweeted early this morning that the Golden State Warriors had decided not visit the White House, which is customary for national sports champions. (The Warriors met with President Obama after winning the championship in 2015.) And it might not be terribly surprising for the team to snub trump: Coach Steve Kerr and some his team members, including, most notably Steph Curry, have been openly critical of the new POTUS.
Predictably, the tweet, which was based on anonymous reports, caused a media firestorm and caught our beloved basketball squad's attention. Team spokesman Raymond Ridder wrote in an email to The Times today, "We have not been invited to the White House. Today is all about celebrating our championship. We will make those decisions when and if necessary."
