We're currently obsessing over San Jose-based style blogger Tanesha Awasthi, a.k.a. Girl With Curves. From her effortlessly full skirts to those signature big sunglasses, each of her well-curated outfits inspire us to put down our well-worn jeans, and opt for a sleeker silhouette (maybe with a pearl accent!). We caught up with the award-winning blogger and UC Berkeley alumna to ask her about her life in Silicon Valley.  

1. What inspired "Girl With Curves?"

My husband suggested I start a blog after listening to me complain about how unfulfilled I was in my tech career and how much I regretted not going to fashion school. At the time, I had no idea there were people with blogs based on sharing their daily outfits, and at first I thought it wasn't for me. 

After a couple of weeks of "sleeping on the idea," I decided to put some images up and see what happened. My images ended up on Tumblr, with over 400 positive and encouraging comments, and thus Girl With Curves was born.

2. If you weren't blogging, what would you be doing?

If I wasn't blogging I'd be running a buy, sell, and trade thrift shop in Milpitas. I've always loved thrifting. Plus, there are so many women with great wardrobe basics in their closets that are in good enough condition to be re-purposed. 

3. What sets your blog apart from others?  

I'm humbled to be part of the body positive movement that's helping women of all sizes achieve self love and confidence.

4. How has SF influenced you? 

There's a vibe about the city that captivates you, makes you want to do more, be better and make change.

5. What neighborhood do you currently call home? Would you ever move or are you happy in your 'hood?  

I live in San Jose, but my husband's been trying to convince me to move further north for years!  He works in Palo Alto, so he would love to move us to SF, but I'm not quite ready to be so far from family (whom I depend on a lot these days with a one-year-old in tow).

6. What's your hands-down, absolute favorite thing to eat in SF?

Shalimar on Jones Street. They have a couple locations in the South Bay, but the original spot in SF is the best.

7. What's your perfect night on the town?

Dinner and a movie, which is an all-too rare occasion these days. 

8. When you need a low-key afternoon, where do you go for down time?

Brunch with my family of four at a dog-friendly restaurant. My English bully is pretty much my first born, so he has to go wherever the rest of us go. 

9. What's your favorite place to go on a day trip from the city?

Santa Cruz. There's nothing like a relaxed beach town to take your mind off of deadlines and collaboration pitches.
