From the party favors to the bouquets, Alicia and Sarah took their wedding into their own hands, and the results were breathtaking.
The brides arrived at Golden Gate Park in a vintage Volkswagen van overflowing with guests, chauffeured by Alicia's roommate and decorated with beer cans. Close friends and family filled the secluded, intimate garden. Some, like Alicia's family, traveled from places as far away as Hawaii. Gifts for loved ones included customized flasks and potted baby succulents from Sarah's grandmother's garden.
Although almost everything at the ceremony was DIY, Sarah and Alicia also threw some traditional touches into the mix. They went dress shopping separately and didn't see each other's gown until their special day. Also, in customary fashion, each bride had her father walk her down the aisle.
As the ceremony unfolded, the exquisite fragrance of Alicia's Pikake lei, fresh from Hawaii, filled the garden. For dessert, guests dined on passionfruit, coconut, and guava cupcakes. After the dinner ended, everyone piled back into the Volkswagen for the reception at El Rio.
