Word on the street is that the highly-anticipated Hayes Valley Biergarten is open for business today. Yippee! As expected from the purveyors at Suppenküche, the drink menu boasts German drafts in the $6-8 range, as well as some bottles and a couple of wine choices. Food options include pretzels (seeds will cost $1 extra), German-style salads (beet, potato) and it wouldn't be a beer garden without brats and sauerkraut. Prost! 424 Octavia (at Fell)
The 2012 Chefs of the Bay Area calendar debuts at 6 p.m. at Macy's Cellar. A few of the pictured chefs will be there along with some of their sweetest treats—including tastes from Kara’s Cupcakes, Humphry Slocombe, and Tout Sweet. All proceeds go to Meals on Wheels of San Francisco. 170 O’Farrell St. (at Stockton)
Thursday, October 20
New startup Sosh, a website that connects people to worthwhile local events, communities and blogs,celebrates its launch with Tacos & Tequila with a Twist. Five chefs, include Namu's Dennis Lee, Chez Spencer's Laurent Katgely and Preeti Mistry (formerly of Juhu Beach Club) each put their own spin on a classic taco. Tres Agaves is pairing the entire menu with tequila cocktails. Yum! Proceeds go to the SF Food Bank. 7-10 pm, 130 Townsend St.
