An Evening With San Francisco Icon Armistead Maupin
What: SF’s 10th Annual One City One Book program hits high gear this week with legendary Tales of the City author Armistead Maupin visiting book stores, schools, businesses, and the San Francisco Main Library. One City One Book’s main event hosts Maupin in conversation with K.M. Soehnlein.
Why:Tales of the City is the whole reason you moved to SF in the first place.

GO ON AN ADVENTURE
What: Cotopaxi, makers of high-quality gear for good, have put together a one-of-a-kind adventure contest celebrating the outdoors. For 24 hours, teams race each other to win exciting prizes, including Cotopaxi gear and international humanitarian trips.
Why:Also, 10% of event profits will benefit WHOlives, helping to purchase a village drill.

CELEBRATE HALLOWEEN EARLY
Supernatural Halloween 2014 at Cal Academy
What: Acrobatic jugglers from Circus of Smiles, roaming magicians, and fanciful face painters take over Cal Academy this Thursday for a Halloween-themed spook fest. Plus, watch the giant pumpkin carving demonstration, magic shows, and don't forget to touch the specimens.
Why: Complimentary beverages, and also proceeds support the Academy’s educational programs.

What: Scares abound in the dimly lit halls of Mayhem Mansion. Tour the magnificent, but aging, manor led by a ghoulish host with scary surprises at every turn.

COME OUT AND PLAY
What: Another excuse to get out of your house this weekend, the fifth annual Come Out & Play San Francisco Festival is bringing new world games to Civic Center including all new night games, live actionSpectrum Ops,where teams must track down and then duel invisible opponents.
Why: The 2014 program culminates with a festival tradition, Journey to theEnd of the Night, an epic chase in which thousands of players pass through checkpoints scattered throughout the streets of San Francisco
