Pastry Chefs Unite to Create Savory Dinner at Commis
On July 12, pastry chefs Carlos Salgado (Commis), Kyle Caporicci (Thermidor) and Luis Villavelazquez (Absinthe) are teaming up to create a nine-course savory menu, served to a very limited number of guests at Commis restaurant in Oakland. Should you want to sample the squid ceviche, cherry/tomato tart and pork shoulder with bacon and peaches, capped off with New Orleans iced coffee popsicles, email carlos@commisrestaurant.com and include your name, telephone and number of people in your party (maximum of 4). The meal is $90 (with optional wine pairings for an additional $60) and begins at 6:30 p.m.
Bastille Day: Another Reasons for a Summer Party
Celebrate Bastille Day (the anniversary of the storming of a French prison) with a meal fit for a king. At Grand Café, choose from boeuf bourguignon and Burgundy (served at the bar for $18) or a four-course menu of French classics, including escargot and bouillabaisse, served in the dining room for $53. To add to the festive vibe, there will be live accordion music.

No need to pre-order—just stop by between 5 and 7 p.m. for your pick of the farm-fresh goods.
