The Dorian Launches the Oyster Luge
If you've never experienced the flavor combination of briny oysters and peaty Scotch, The Dorian's recently-launched Oyster Luge is a prime opportunity to do so. Elixir isn't typically touted as a sports bar, but the neighborhood saloon is near the top of our list of places to catch Olympic coverage this summer. Starting with $6 Prosecco during the Opening Ceremony on August 5 at 4pm, Elixir will be offering a host of drink specials to keep us armchair athletes well-lubricated while we watch up to four different events at a time. Olympic Cocktail at Brasserie S&P
For a more sultry celebration of the Olympic spirit, slip into The Bar at Brasserie S&P for A Taste of Rio, a spicy mix of Brazilian cachaça, sugar, lime and a house-made syrup infused with kaffir lime, lemongrass and jalapeño. The $14 drink will be available during the Olympic games, August 5 through 21. Oaxaca Comes to Oakland
Mark your calendar now for next week's gastronomical tour of Oaxaca at Calavera in Oakland. On Wednesday, August 10 at 7pm, the high-end Mexican restaurant is hosting Chef Julio Aguilera from El Destilado restaurant in Oaxaca, Mexico to prepare a six-course meal ($55) with special cocktail pairings (additional $20). El Destilado co-creator Jason Cox will lead a pre-dinner tasting of four rare mezcals ($20/person), including Bicuixe de Cántaro, which was fermented in pine, distilled in copper and aged 4.5 months in a black clay pots in Oaxaca; and Pechuga de Mole Poblano, which was fermented in underground holes in Puebla, Mexico before being distilled in a hollowed out tree trunk with a mole-basted turkey breast.
