Did you eat a lot over the holidays? We did too. It was fun while it lasted, but it's time to get moving again. Here are some ideas to whip yourself back into tip-top shape.
Boot Camp SF,(415) 921-8537, info@bootcampsf.com
Boot Camp SF really gives you no excuses to not burn off your winter weight. They set up shop at seven different locales around town (Crissy Field, Bernal Heights, Dolores Park, etc.) and stage dozens of hour-long before- and after-work classes. When you sign up, these fitness gurus will asses your health and fitness level, then stick you in a class with people of similar ability so you'll get the most bang for your buck. Sessions include intense cardio (long distance running, running stairs and more), agility training, and strength training to tighten you up. Six-week sessions start at $215, and one-class drop-in rates start at $20.
VyAyr, (415) 412-1558, info@vyayr.com
This exclusively-female boot camp program is raved about on Yelp and shines with a solid 5-star rating. Ladies who once hated both working out and getting up early are converts singing the praises of head trainer Kristi Dowler, a decorated fitness expert who will likely turn your life around after a few sessions. Outdoor workouts at Crissy Field and South Beach are Dowler's main offering, but VyAyr also provides health counseling, yoga and pilates if you want a less high-impact fitness fix, and even personal training if you're more the one-on-one type. Prices start at $200 for 4 weeks of 3-day sessions.
A La Vie Fitness, (415) 567-7411, info@alaviefitness.com
This boot camp has ladies-only classes, coed sessions and even prenatal fitness programs that provide team motivation, nutrition education and, of course, whole-body fitness instruction. Certified trainers excel in the usual boot camp fare like stair running, but will also put you up against obstacle courses, sport yoga, jump roping and a heck of a lot more. They mainly post up in Kezar Stadium and near the Conservatory of Flowers (as well as other spots around the Bay Area). Check out their blog for healthy recipes and tips on how to get your own fitness regimen kickstarted. Four-week boot camps start at $180.
After weeks of eating pie, chocolate, mashed potatoes and who knows what else, the start of a new year is perfect to detox your body. Koi Fitness emphasizes a strong nutrition program to supplement all of their exercise classes to really turn your bad habits around. Their health counselors will give you recipes, answer all your questions and encourage you to keep a food log so you can get the most from your body. Coupled with their workouts amidst the city's glorious outdoors in spots like the Presidio, the Tea Garden in Golden Gate Park and vigorous Saturday sessions on Baker Beach, and you'll shed any excess poundage you picked up over the holidays. Prices vary, but new members are encouraged to sign up for a 6-week, 4-days-per-week package for $385.
