Yves Behar wants you to stop working from your couch. The award-winning industrial designer and founder of Fuseproject is bringing a new residential co-working space to Pac Heights this September. Canopy will feature lots of natural light, open space, and plenty of freshly pressed juice—everything you need for a good day's work.
But don't expect any foosball tables, bean bags, or ping-pong matches at this idea incubator. As reported by Forbes, Behar and his partners, Steve Mohebi and Amir Mortazavi, envisioned Canopy for mature, career professionals who can't or don't want to work from home. The idea is that where you work has an immediate impact on what you do, the quality of productivity, and what ideas you come up with, so you might as well work somewhere great.
Hence, the luxurious new space will also include concierge-style amenities and the latest in startup swag. The majority of the office furniture will be designed by Herman Miller (what we would give for a Sayl desk chair), August smart locks will keep everyone's stuff safe, Heath Ceramics will take care of the tile and dish ware, coffee will be provided by Sight Glass, and the kitchen will come equipped with Juicero, a juicer designed by Behar. Canopy will also provide wi-fi, access to private conference rooms, and tech support.
All this luxury, though, comes with a hefty price tag. A shared desk will cost around $650 per month and a private office goes for $4,000 monthly. If the Pac Heights location proves successful, Behar hopes to expand the idea across the country.
"We are planning to open in similar neighborhoods across the U.S. first," Behar told Forbes. "And then expand internationally. The opportunity to re-invigorate walkable neighborhoods that lack good independent work spaces, and to give people the work and lifestyle they've been dreaming off, we see this opportunity as a universal one."
