If your obsessive foodie gene came from your mama, skip that last minute floral delivery and treat mom to a day (or weekend!) of killer eats around the Bay Area.
Brunch, Dinner, and Beyond This Sunday
Every year, mom says she'd be just thrilled with a card. "Or maybe even a phone call!" Instead, use that phone to make resevations at one of the stellar restaurants offering delicious Mother's Day festivities that the whole family can get on board with. Our top picks: a decadent Italian feast at A16 (mom gets treats to take home, too!; a lazy morning spent in Foreign Cinema's sunny courtyard; and a fabulous prix fixe at Park Tavern (capped off with a few brunch cocktails, of course).
If your mom's feeling adventurous, a jaunt to this Sunday's Off The Grid Presidio Picnic might suit. Double up with a special Mother's Day dinner at Delfina or Locanda, where you'll find "mom-inspired a la carte options." Another way to make a day of it: Head up to Healdsburg for brunch at spoonbar for bottomless bellinis and bites from the raw bar. We bet you'll think of a few ways to pass the time up in Wine Country once brunch is complete.
April Bloomfield's Cookbook Celebration and a La Cocina Benefit

For a weekend full of gastronomic adventures, start with a celebration of April Bloomfield's new cookbook, A Girl and Her Greens. Lady April herself will be holding court at Tosca this Friday, May 8, preparing a veggie-centric three-course menu (tables are available for two or four; get tickets and more information here). Even better, you'll have your Mother's Day gift locked down: a signed copy of A Girl and Her Greens is included in the ticket price.
If you and mom really love going all out, grab tickets to La Cocina's 10th Anniversary Gala, happening this Monday, May 11. Choose between the cocktail reception, where you can sample goods from a number of La Cocina-boosted vendors, or go for the dinner honoring Diana Kennedy, curated by Traci Des Jardins, and featuring a marvelous roster of badass lady chefs. You, mom, good food, and girl power? Happy Mother's Day, indeed.
